Grimaldi Group Orders Nine Battery-Powered ROPax Vessels

Scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2030, the vessels will be built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai. These ships are the first methanol-capable ROPax designed for the Mediterranean, featuring multi-fuel readiness including methanol, biodiesel, battery power, and shore power connectivity. The integrated efficiency package also includes optimized hull design, waste heat recovery, and silicon hull coatings, aiming to reduce CO₂ emissions by over 50% per cargo unit compared to current vessels. This $1.5 billion fleet renewal underscores a growing commitment to hybrid-electric maritime solutions in Europe.
