AYK Energy Ltd. has secured a contract to supply 2,073 kWh OrionAN marine battery systems to nine next-generation RoPax vessels for Grimaldi Group, totaling 18,657 kWh of battery capacity. The vessels are being built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai) with
deliveries planned between 2028 and 2030. Six vessels will operate in the Mediterranean under Grimaldi Lines and Minoan Lines, while three will serve Finnlines in the Baltic Sea. The OrionAN systems will support hybrid and energy-optimized architectures, improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and enhancing operational flexibility. The battery platform is DNV type-approved, reflecting AYK’s focus on safety and scalable marine electrification. AYK Founder & President Chris Kruger highlighted the project as a significant step in practical decarbonisation solutions for commercial shipping.
