COSCO SHIPPING DEVELOPMENT has commissioned the construction of nine bulk carriers through its subsidiaries, with deliveries scheduled from November 2029 to June 2030. The order includes five 87,000 DWT multipurpose grain carriers built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation's (CSSC) Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, and four 210,000
DWT bulk carriers—two built by CSSC's Dalian Shipbuilding and two by Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding. All vessels are designed to be conventional fuel-powered with methanol and ammonia readiness. The contracts were approved by the company's board on 30 June 2026, with a total contract value of approximately RMB 3.87 billion (excluding tax). These newbuilds will be chartered to Cosco Shipping Bulk under long-term leases, supporting COSCO SHIPPING DEVELOPMENT's strategy to expand its fleet with greener, fuel-flexible vessels. This move aligns with the company's focus on sustainable shipping and strengthening its ship leasing business.
