Wallenius Wilhelmsen has signed an agreement with Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) for four new dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs), with options for up to eight additional vessels. The deal follows the Oslo-headquartered car carrier operator's private placement announced earlier in October 2026. The vessels will each have a capacity of 9,900 ceu and will be fitted with dual-fuel LNG engines. The four firm vessels are scheduled for delivery from mid-2030, with options covering four more ships in 2031 and a further four in 2032. Should all options be exercised, total capital expenditure is expected to reach around US$1.5 billion. The order extends Wallenius Wilhelmsen's fleet renewal program, launched in 2023 as the largest in the company's history, which now totals 26 vessels including options. It builds on the company's Shaper class program, which combines hoistable decks, strong ramps and adaptable cargo spaces, with vessels already being delivered and entering service. Xavier Leroi, chief operating officer shipping services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, said the company continues to see attractive opportunities in the segments it serves and wants the capacity, flexibility and efficiency to support customers in coming decades, adding that the expanded newbuilding program reflects confidence in long-term market fundamentals and the company's deep-sea RoRo position. Wallenius Wilhelmsen operates around 130 vessels across 15 trade routes to six continents, alongside a global inland distribution network, 70 processing centers and eight marine terminals.
