Navios Maritime Partners has placed an order for up to eight 319,000 DWT VLCCs valued at nearly USD 1 billion, marking a significant investment in China's shipbuilding sector. The order highlights growing confidence in Chinese shipyards' quality and delivery reliability. Although Navios has not publicly disclosed the shipbuilder in financial filings, industry sources and order pipeline data identify Wuhu Shipyard as the builder. Reports from February 2026 indicated that Navios had pre-booked four VLCC construction slots with Wuhu Shipyard. This deal represents Wuhu Shipyard's official entry into high-end VLCC construction, expanding China's presence in the global VLCC newbuilding market. The order underscores the strengthening position of Chinese shipyards in large crude carrier production.
