On 20 May 2026, Estonian State Fleet signed a contract with Polish shipyard CRIST SA to build Estonia's first fully electric passenger ferry. The vessel, scheduled for delivery between October and December 2028, will be approximately 100 metres long and accommodate 380 passengers along with up
to 110 passenger vehicles or 8 freight trucks. Powered by a 3 MWh shore-charged battery system, it will operate on green electricity for daily service, with biodiesel backup generators ensuring a range of at least 1,000 nautical miles in severe weather or emergencies. Built to ice class 1B, the ferry will feature azimuth thrusters at both ends to handle harsh Baltic conditions. Onboard amenities include a professional kitchen, restaurant, accessibility solutions, and crew accommodations. The EUR 49.93 million contract is supported by EUR 28 million from the EU Modernisation Fund.
