Japanese Companies to Build World's Largest Liquefied Hydrogen Carrier

Innovation Fund program of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), the project aims to establish a commercial supply chain for liquefied hydrogen by fiscal year 2030. The carrier will feature advanced thermal insulation, an electric propulsion system with dual-fuel diesel-hydrogen generators, and the ability to use gaseous hydrogen generated during storage as fuel, significantly reducing carbon emissions. The vessel, measuring approximately 250 meters in length and 35 meters in width with a draft of 8.5 meters, builds on Kawasaki's earlier work, including the Suiso Frontier, the world's first liquefied hydrogen carrier.
