Singapore-based Seatrium has secured a contract from Turkish power ship owner and operator Karpowership to convert another liquefied natural gas carrier into a floating storage and regasification unit. The contract, announced on 5 Oct 2026, covers the conversion of the 143,000-cubic-metre Moss-type LNG carrier Arctic Voyager into an FSRU to be named LNGT Akdeniz, with work scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027. The converted unit will have a regasification capacity of 650 million standard cubic feet per day and a design life of 20 years. Seatrium's scope includes engineering, conversion, integration, installation and commissioning of the regasification equipment and associated systems. The FSRU is expected to strengthen LNG import and regasification capacity in its target market, supporting energy security and cleaner fuel supply. The award marks Seatrium's ninth FSRU conversion contract for Karpowership. Since 2018, the Singaporean company has delivered seven converted FSRUs to its Turkish partner: LNGT Africa, LNGT Asia, LNGT Europe, LNGT Antarctica, LNGT Americas, LNGT Oceania and LNGT Turkiye. A letter of intent signed in the third quarter of 2025 covered conversion of three LNG carriers into FSRUs alongside potential cooperation on next-generation floating power plants; two of those projects, LNGT Akdeniz and the already-underway LNGT Karadeniz, have now progressed to firm contracts. Since 2007, Seatrium has delivered 22 FSRU and floating storage unit conversion projects worldwide, and says it has undertaken more than 90% of global projects in this segment. Karpowership operates a fleet of 45 vessels, and its LNG carrier fleet is expected to expand to 12 with the addition of LNGT Akdeniz.
