CIMC Enric has announced the successful commissioning of China’s first large-scale bio-based green methanol project in Zhanjiang, Guangdong. The facility, which features a Phase I production capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year, uses biomass residues such as bark and straw to produce green methanol through high-temperature gasification. The project, aligned with ISCC EU certification and C-14 testing for traceability, leverages Zhanjiang Port’s infrastructure, including 30,000 m³ of storage and specialized berths, to enable a rapid production-to-bunkering cycle, promising same-day delivery across the Greater Bay Area. This initiative is expected to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 85% compared to conventional fuels, marking a significant step towards decarbonizing the shipping industry. The commissioning event brought together major shipping liners, chemical partners, and bunker suppliers, highlighting the growing shift toward certified, scalable green fuel solutions for maritime transport.
