Kawasaki Heavy Industries has secured a contract to build a new Kawasaki Jetfoil, jointly ordered by Kyushu Yusen Co., Ltd. and the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency. The high-speed passenger vessel will be constructed at the Kobe Works and is scheduled for delivery in June 2029. It will serve routes between Hakata and the islands of Iki and Tsushima. This marks Kawasaki's first Jetfoil order in eight years, featuring updated safety enhancements, a new gas turbine engine, and an improved cabin layout. The company aims to support fast maritime transport on Japan's remote-island routes with ongoing Jetfoil development.
