South Korea’s DM Shipping has signed a contract with Jiangxi New Jiangzhou Shipbuilding Heavy Industry in China for the construction of three new chemical tankers. The vessels, each with a deadweight of 33,000 tons and valued at over RMB 1.2 billion ($168 million) in total, are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029. The tankers will be classed by the Korean Register of Shipping and feature duplex stainless steel construction, measuring 185 meters in length and 28.6 meters in beam. Designed to operate on both methanol and conventional fuel, these newbuilds reflect DM Shipping’s commitment to modernizing its fleet. The order is seen as a significant achievement for the recently relaunched New Jiangzhou Shipyard, which has been securing multiple contracts since its reopening in March 2023.
