Korea Captures 39% of September Shipbuilding Orders In September 2025, South Korea secured 39% of the global shipbuilding orders, positioning second after China, which took a 40% share. Data from Clarksons Research indicates that the total ship orders for the month amassed 3.5 million compensated gross tonnes (CGT) across 123 vessels, marking a 44% year-on-year decline. While Chinese shipbuilders outpaced their Korean counterparts with 1.42 million CGT over 69 ships, Korean firms excelled with higher value-added ships, achieving 1.35 million CGT across 33 vessels. The robust performance highlighted Korea's production of larger ships with an average of 41,000 CGT per vessel, compared to China's 21,000 CGT. Year-to-date trends show a shrinking global order volume, a 47% drop from the previous year. Korea's cumulative share stands at 22%, totaling 7.34 million CGT from 169 ships, as China leads with 56%.
