Tallinn Shipyard, part of BLRT Repair Yards, has been selected to undertake a major retrofit on Aurora Botnia, the flagship hybrid ferry operated by Finland’s Wasaline. The work will involve the installation of a 10.4 MWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system supplied by AYK Energy Ltd.

According to project estimates, the upgrade will reduce the vessel’s annual fossil energy consumption by around 10,000 MWh and lower emissions by approximately 23 percent.Aurora Botnia is regarded as one of the world’s most eco‑friendly ferries. The planned retrofit follows Wasaline’s milestone in becoming the world’s first carbon‑neutral ferry operator.The retrofit project is scheduled to begin in autumn 2025 at Tallinn Shipyard in Estonia.
