VARD has won a contract from Dong Fang Offshore (DFO) for the design and construction of a new Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), valued at between €66 million and €75 million. The vessel will be built at Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam and delivered in the third quarter of 2028, marking the fifth vessel ordered by DFO from VARD since the partnership began in 2024. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the order was placed and reported on 4 May 2025. Based on the VARD 4 39 design, the new CSOV will measure approximately 102.5 metres in length and 19.5 metres in width, with a battery-hybrid configuration and optimized hull and propulsion system intended to enhance seakeeping and station-keeping performance. It will be equipped with a 32-metre walk-to-work system, a 3D motion-compensated crane, and a 700-square-metre work deck for cable-laying and repair work. The vessel will also be fitted for ROV launch and recovery, prepared for a future helideck, and can be optioned with a 70-tonne active heave-compensated crane for subsea work. The order follows two CSOVs ordered by DFO from VARD in 2024 and two further vessels, including an Offshore Subsea Construction vessel, in 2025. Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, said the contract strengthens VARD's relationship with DFO and reflects its capability to deliver specialized offshore vessels. The new CSOV will accommodate up to 120 people across 90 cabins and feature VARD's SeaQ Green Pilot and SeaQ Bridge systems.
