Norwegian aquaculture vessel operator Brønnbåt Nord has ordered an 86.8-metre battery-hybrid wellboat from Spain's Zamakona Yards, with delivery scheduled for 2029. The vessel represents an investment of approximately NOK 1 billion (about US$110 million). Designed by NSK Ship Design, the newbuild will feature a 5,000 m³ well capacity, battery-hybrid propulsion, shore-power capability, an advanced energy-recovery system and onboard freshwater production. It will primarily be used for fish treatment and handling, employing freshwater, thermal and mechanical treatment systems, and will also be capable of transporting smolt and harvest-ready fish. Steel cutting is planned for March–April 2027, with outfitting and completion carried out at Zamakona's facilities in Bilbao. The project builds on Zamakona's experience with Caspian, a 2,800 m³ hybrid wellboat delivered in 2024. The new vessel will add 2,200 m³ of well capacity to Brønnbåt Nord's fleet, strengthening its ability to support fish farmers in Northern Norway.
