On July 29, COSCO SHIPPING Development (CSD) announced a landmark investment exceeding RMB 6 billion (approx. $830 million) in its new '10+4+1' green fleet expansion program. The initiative includes the construction of ten methanol- and ammonia-ready Newcastlemax bulk carriers, four asphalt tankers, and one QC-Max LNG carrier. The bulk carriers will be built at Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding and Zhoushan COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, while the asphalt tankers will be constructed at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. The LNG carrier involves a sale-and-leaseback deal valued up to $360 million. This large-scale program, which follows a significant 2023 investment in bulk carriers, highlights CSD’s ongoing strategy to promote green transformation, ESG commitments, and integrated financial solutions in the maritime sector. The vessels are set for long-term charter to COSCO SHIPPING Bulk and COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, further enhancing collaboration within the COSCO SHIPPING Group and supporting the decarbonization of global shipping.
