MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, under the leadership of Gianluigi Aponte, has significantly increased its fleet of ultra-large container ships with a recent procurement. The company has now added 20 new vessels to its order book, bringing the total number of these massive ships on order to 74. All of these vessels are set to be constructed across five different shipyards in China, with an estimated total cost of $17 billion. This strategic move further cements MSC's status as the largest liner company globally, with its ambitious expansion plans focusing on enhancing capacity and operational reach. This development follows a notable event in April when the MSC Diletta, with a capacity of 23,782-teu, was the largest container ship to dock at a West African port in Tema, Ghana. Such milestones reiterate MSC's commitment to scaling up its operations and expanding its geographical influence.
