MacGregor has secured a contract to upgrade Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems aboard 35 Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) vessels operated by Wallenius Wilhelmsen. The agreement covers modernisation of control systems for the vessels' quarter ramps, with MacGregor recording the order in its third-quarter 2026 order intake. The company did not disclose the contract's value. The retrofit work will be carried out according to each vessel's sailing schedule and availability, allowing Wallenius Wilhelmsen to coordinate the upgrades with its existing fleet operations. The programme focuses on replacing existing PLC systems to maintain equipment reliability and reduce the risk of operational disruptions. Wallenius Wilhelmsen will retain the replaced controllers onboard as spare parts, with potential reuse for other Ro-Ro equipment or vessels running compatible systems. Tom Forrester-Coles, Fleet Manager, Technical Marine Operations Management at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, said keeping control systems updated helps the company manage equipment obsolescence and provide crews with dependable operational tools. MacGregor's relationship with the vessels dates back to their original design and construction, having supplied equipment during the newbuilding phase and continued supporting the fleet through subsequent upgrades. Tomas Hakala, Executive Vice President, Global Services at MacGregor, said the retrofit programme builds on the companies' existing relationship, emphasising equipment reliability, operational consistency and reduced downtime. No completion date for the retrofit programme has been announced.
