Swedish shipowner Rederi AB Veritas Tankers has been identified by market sources as the buyer behind a package of up to six 13,000-dwt stainless steel chemical tankers ordered at Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipment (ROC). Including options, the contract is valued at RMB1.5-1.65 billion, approximately US$223-246 million, based on an exchange rate of RMB6.7138 per US$1 dated 30 October 2026. ROC's listed parent has confirmed the contract with an unnamed European owner, though the split between firm orders and options has not been disclosed. At the time of announcement, the contract's effectiveness was subject to conditions including receipt of the first payment, with deliveries scheduled to begin 28 months after effectiveness is confirmed. The vessels are designed for northern European parcel trades and will feature 12 independent duplex stainless steel cargo tanks, along with dimensions suited to navigating narrow waterways. This configuration would allow multiple chemical cargoes to be carried on a single voyage. If the buyer attribution is confirmed, the order would represent a substantial investment for Veritas Tankers, whose website currently lists five tankers in its fleet. The ultimate impact on regional chemical tanker capacity will depend on how many options are exercised and whether older vessels are retired as replacements enter service.
