Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), has signed a contract with HAI AN TRANSPORT & STEVEDORING JSC (HAIAN) for the construction of two 1,900-TEU container ships, in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC). The deal marks the first cooperation between the Chinese shipbuilder and the Vietnamese shipping company. The vessels belong to Huangpu Wenchong's self-developed "Honghu" series, measuring 172 meters in length and 27.5 meters in beam, with a deadweight of approximately 24,000 tons. The design meets Phase III energy efficiency requirements under the International Maritime Organization's EEDI framework and includes shore power and desulfurization systems to reduce emissions and support compliance with global environmental regulations. Launched in 2020, the "Honghu" 1,900-TEU design has been ordered by more than 20 international and domestic liner operators and specialized vessel owners, with deployments across shipping routes spanning six continents and the world's three major oceans. The design has become a recognized benchmark in the feeder container ship segment. HAIAN is Vietnam's largest container shipping line, listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, with operations covering port management, container shipping and logistics services. The contract extends Huangpu Wenchong's customer base in Southeast Asia and reinforces its position in the feeder container ship market.
