Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) has taken delivery of a new liquefied petroleum gas and ammonia carrier named Energy North, adding to the company's fleet of specialized gas transport vessels. The addition of Energy North underscores Nakilat's ongoing efforts to diversify its shipping portfolio beyond its traditional core business of liquefied natural gas transport. Ammonia carriers have drawn growing industry attention in recent years as ammonia is increasingly considered a potential low-carbon marine fuel and an efficient means of transporting hydrogen, prompting shipowners to expand capacity in this segment. Nakilat, based in Qatar, is known as one of the world's largest owners and operators of LNG carriers, supporting the country's position as a major exporter of liquefied natural gas. The company has in recent years sought to broaden its activities to include LPG and ammonia shipping, ship management, and maritime logistics services, aligning its fleet development with shifting global energy trade patterns. No further technical specifications regarding Energy North, including its builder, delivery date, or cargo capacity, were disclosed. The vessel is expected to join Nakilat's operating fleet to support the transport of LPG and ammonia cargoes for customers in the energy and industrial sectors.
