Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has signed a contract with Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) for the construction of four Hybrid Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), according to IADN Centre. The order represents the first phase of a broader ONGC plan to procure 25 offshore support vessels by 2030, as the company seeks to raise its direct ownership to approximately 30% of its offshore fleet. The new PSVs will feature hybrid propulsion systems and advanced dynamic positioning technology, intended to improve operational reliability and fuel efficiency while supporting safer and lower-emission offshore operations. The contract is aligned with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, a long-term framework aimed at strengthening India's domestic shipbuilding capacity and bolstering national energy security. The programme has also been framed as part of the broader Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, which promote indigenous manufacturing across strategic sectors. GRSE, a state-owned shipyard, will carry out construction of the four vessels under the agreement. Further details on delivery timelines, vessel specifications, and contract value were not disclosed. The deal marks an early step in ONGC's wider fleet renewal strategy, with additional vessel orders expected to follow as the 2030 target progresses.
