Almi Marine Management of Athens has ordered three additional 64,000 dwt ultramax bulk carriers at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry in Zhoushan, bringing its total newbuilding programme to five vessels. The new ships are scheduled for delivery in 2030. The order follows an earlier contract placed in February 2026 for two 64,000 dwt ultramaxes at Nantong COSCO KHI, which are due for delivery in the second quarter of 2029. With the latest deal, Almi Marine has now committed to five sister ultramax vessels across two Chinese shipyards within the COSCO Shipping group. The newbuilding activity comes against a backdrop of firm pricing for Chinese-built bulkers, with a Chinese-built ultramax reported to cost around $36 million in August 2026. Almi Marine currently operates a fleet of six bulk carriers, meaning the expanded newbuilding programme will nearly double its total fleet size once all five ships are delivered. The order underscores continued appetite among Greek owners for mid-sized bulk carrier tonnage built in China, as shipowners look to renew and grow their fleets ahead of deliveries later in the decade.
