Greek owner Capital Product Partners is advancing its gas sector expansion with an order for six dual-fuel medium gas carriers (MGCs) valued at $756 million. This figure includes the cost of four previously ordered liquefied CO2 (LCO2) multi-gas carriers. Deliveries are slated from Q1 2026 to Q3 2027.To fund this order, the company is reallocating $182.5 million in gross proceeds from the sale of seven container vessels between February and May 2024, supplemented by existing cash reserves. Additional funds will be raised through debt financing.

Of the ten vessels, eight are being constructed at South Korea's Hyundai Mipo Dockyard: four 45,000 cubic meter MGCs at $78.1 million each and four 22,000 cubic meter LCO2 carriers at $78.2 million each. The remaining two MGCs, each with a capacity of 40,000 cubic meters, are ordered from China's CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering at $65.3 million per vessel. The first Hyundai Mipo-built MGC will be delivered in June 2026, while the initial LCO2 carrier will arrive in January 2026. The last vessel, built by CIMC, is expected in July 2027. These MGCs feature dual-fuel capabilities, shaft generators, and energy-saving devices, with a 15%-30% increased capacity over older models.Capital Product Partners views this expansion as a strategic move to bolster its presence in the conventional and energy transition gas sectors, aiming for a fleet of 18 LNG carriers by 2027.
