Japanese Shipping Firm K Line Takes Delivery of LNG Dual-Fuel Bulker, Cape Hayate

Hayate will sail under the Japanese flag. Cape Hayate marks a significant milestone as the first Capesize bulk carrier in K Line 's fleet to feature a dual-fuel diesel engine utilizing LNG as its primary fuel. K Line anticipates that using LNG will reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 25-30%, sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions by nearly 100%, and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by approximately 75%, aligning with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Tier III NOx regulations. The vessel is equipped with the 7X62DF-2.1 iCER dual-fuel electronic control engine, developed by WinGD, designed to minimize methane slip during LNG operation. Furthermore, K Line intends to enhance the vessel's environmental performance by installing Seawing, an automated kite system harnessing wind power, to further its commitment to carbon-free technology.
