Nanjing Shenghang Shipping has placed an order for six 13,500 dwt stainless-steel chemical and product tankers at China Merchants' Nanjing Shipyard, as part of its ongoing fleet renewal programme. The deal is valued at CNY994.8 million ($148 million). Deliveries of the six vessels are scheduled between 2028 and 2030. The new tankers will each feature 14 segregations, allowing multiple cargo grades to be carried simultaneously, a design feature aimed at improving operational flexibility across chemical trades. The order is intended to strengthen Nanjing Shenghang's capacity in both domestic and international chemical shipping markets while replacing older tonnage in its existing fleet. Stainless-steel construction allows the vessels to handle a broader range of chemical cargoes without contamination risk, a key requirement for operators serving diversified chemical trade routes. The contract marks a significant step in Nanjing Shenghang's fleet modernisation strategy and reflects continued investment activity in the chemical tanker newbuilding segment, as owners look to renew ageing tonnage with vessels offering greater cargo flexibility and efficiency.
