Germany's Leonhardt & Blumberg has ordered another two 49,500 dwt MR chemical and product tankers at Guangzhou Shipyard International, further expanding a newbuilding programme launched two years ago. Broker reports indicate the latest pair is due for delivery in 2029, built to the same specification as the existing series, featuring scrubbers and methanol-ready designs. The order marks the Hamburg owner's second expansion of the programme this year. In February, Leonhardt & Blumberg added two ships to the four originally contracted in 2024, bringing the GSI orderbook to six vessels before this latest addition. The first ship from the series, the 49,500 dwt Hansa Guangzhou, was delivered in June, complying with Tier III and EEDI Phase 3 requirements, followed by the Hansa Genoa this month. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the new pair was ordered on 1 September 2026 and reported two days later, with delivery scheduled between 2029 and 2030; the vessels will measure 183 metres in length, 32 metres in width and have a draught of 13.3 metres. The original six vessels are covered by a commercial management agreement with Navig8, signed last November. Leonhardt & Blumberg entered the product tanker sector only in 2022, having built much of its modern history as a handysize containership tonnage provider. The company's current fleet listing includes 20 containerships, six product tankers and three multipurpose vessels, reflecting a broader diversification into tankers alongside its established container business.
