MacGregor has secured a contract to supply cargo-handling systems for six 1,700 TEU dual-fuel, LNG-powered containerships being built at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in India for CMA CGM. The vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2031. The order, booked in MacGregor's Q2 2026 results, covers the design, key components and fabrication of hatch covers, along with the design and supply of cell guides, deck stanchions and fixed container fittings. The equipment will support CMA CGM's fleet expansion with ships able to run on LNG while remaining adaptable for future low-carbon fuels, in line with the carrier's target of achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050. The programme is notable as the first instance of a major international container line commissioning LNG-powered ships from an Indian shipyard, reinforcing India's growing role in global shipbuilding and sustainable maritime trade. The contract was arranged through VARYA Tech Private Limited, MacGregor's long-standing agent in India, which coordinated between CSL and MacGregor throughout the process. CSL described the project as evidence of its expanding capability in complex newbuild construction and its contribution to the wider development of India's maritime industry. The six-ship order adds to MacGregor's portfolio of cargo-handling equipment for next-generation, environmentally focused container vessels. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the order was placed on 18 Feb 2026 and reported on 14 Oct 2025; the vessels are classed as container feeders measuring 199.9 metres in length, 35.2 metres in width and 8.5 metres draught, with all six units currently listed as ordered.
