Greek shipowners Enesel and Seanergy Maritime have each placed additional newbuilding orders at Hengli Heavy Industries, expanding their dry bulk fleets amid a broader recovery in large bulk carrier ordering. Enesel has ordered a 210,000 DWT Newcastlemax bulk carrier (hull HL-B210K-3) for delivery in November 2028, bringing its Hengli orderbook to five vessels, alongside four 181,500 DWT Capesize bulk carriers due between the second half of 2027 and first half of 2028. The Newcastlemax measures 295 metres in length and 50 metres in beam,
is fitted with an Everllence 6G70ME-C10.5-HPSCR main engine and shaft generator, and will be classed by the American Bureau of Shipping. Enesel now holds nine newbuild orders in total, including four 63,500 DWT Ultramax bulk carriers from Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry, with deliveries starting in 2027. The company had exited dry bulk in September 2025 by selling three Capesize vessels to Hayfin Capital, but had signalled plans to rebuild a modern fleet across vessel types. It also operates 14 tankers and 11 container ships. Seanergy Maritime has ordered one 210,000 DWT bulk carrier from Hengli Heavy Industries for delivery in 2029, cost undisclosed, adding to three 181,500-tonne vessels ordered earlier, for four ships total with the yard. Over the past ten months, Seanergy has placed seven newbuild orders across Chinese and Japanese shipyards. According to Xclusiv Shipbrokers, global owners had contracted 90 Capesize/very large bulk carriers by end-July, with the orderbook-to-fleet ratio for large bulkers exceeding 17% and average fleet age around 12.5 years.
