Greek bulker owner Veritas Shipmanagement has placed a fresh order for two 64,000 dwt ultramax bulkers at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry's Zhoushan yard, extending a newbuilding relationship with the Chinese shipbuilder that began in 2023. Local shipbrokers identified Veritas as the buyer of the vessels, which are scheduled for delivery in 2030. No contract price has been disclosed for the deal. Xclusiv currently assesses a standard Chinese-built ultramax newbuilding at around $36m, which would put a two-ship programme at roughly $72m if the order was contracted close to prevailing market levels. The Athens-based owner has an established track record with COSCO Zhoushan. In 2023, Veritas booked four 63,600 dwt ultramaxes at the same yard, with deliveries beginning in the middle of this decade. Its fleet page currently lists two recently delivered COSCO-built ultramaxes, one delivered in 2025 and another in 2026, reflecting the earlier order gradually being fulfilled. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the new order was reported on 22 Jan 2026 and covers two conventionally fuelled ultramax newbuildings. The latest order underscores continued appetite among Greek owners for mid-sized dry bulk newbuildings at Chinese yards, even as delivery slots stretch out to the end of the decade.
