Chowgule and Company's Shipbuilding Division has delivered MV Hansa Anholt, the second vessel in a series of 8,500 DWT ships being built for German shipowner Leonhardt & Blumberg, from its Mangaluru shipyard. The delivery marks continued progress on a multi-vessel newbuilding programme between the Indian shipbuilder and the Hamburg-based owner. The 8,500 DWT class is designed to serve short-sea and regional trades typical of Leonhardt & Blumberg's fleet, which specialises in feeder and general cargo operations across European and international routes. Chowgule and Company's Shipbuilding Division operates its yard in Mangaluru on India's western coast, where it has built a range of vessels for domestic and international clients. The completion of MV Hansa Anholt following the first ship in the series indicates steady execution of the contract and points to further deliveries expected as the remaining vessels in the order progress through construction. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the order for the general cargo freighter series was placed in September 2023, with deliveries scheduled to begin from 27 Aug 2026. Neither company disclosed the value of the newbuilding contract or a timeline for the remaining vessels in the series. The delivery underscores the ongoing role of Indian shipyards in fulfilling orders for European owners seeking capacity in the small to mid-size dry cargo segment.
