Hudong-Zhonghua delivered OOCL CHANCAY on 24 Aug 2026, the lead vessel of a 13,600-TEU large-size container ship series built for Seaspan Corporation of Canada, which is described as the world's largest independent container-ship owner and ship leasing operator. The newbuild measures approximately 336 metres in overall length, with a moulded breadth of 51 metres and a moulded depth of 30.2 metres. It offers a maximum container capacity of 14,132 TEU, including 2,000 reefer
container slots, exceeding the nominal 13,600-TEU class designation of the series. The vessel incorporates current design concepts aimed at reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Its stated attributes include high loading capacity, strong economic efficiency, high reliability and low energy consumption, placing its overall performance at an advanced level within the industry. As the first ship in the series, OOCL CHANCAY sets the technical benchmark for sister vessels to follow. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the order for the series was placed with the Seaspan Corporation Group on 1 May 2024, and the vessel has a deadweight of approximately 145,000 tonnes. The delivery is intended to support Seaspan's capacity to meet transportation demand in the global shipping market and to improve the operational performance of its fleet. Hudong-Zhonghua, a Chinese shipbuilder, continues to expand its portfolio of large container vessels through the project.
