Jiangnan Shipyard Names Second 100,000-cbm VLEC PACIFIC MERAK

It uses Jiangnan Shipyard's in-house developed Type-B cargo containment system, branded BrillianceE, and is described as the world's largest-capacity VLEC, with its overall technical specifications assessed as internationally advanced. The vessel is positioned as a purpose-built solution for long-haul transportation of US ethane and is compatible with major LPG terminals worldwide. Cited operational advantages include low fuel and gas consumption, a low boil-off rate from the BrillianceE containment system, the absence of liquid-level loading restrictions, and reduced maintenance costs, which together are expected to provide economic benefits to operators. PACIFIC MERAK is the second of the series built by Jiangnan Shipyard, following an earlier vessel developed under the same VLEC programme for Pacific Gas and its partners. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the vessel was ordered on 1 Oct 2023 by Pacific Gas (Hong Kong) Holdings Ltd. and has a deadweight of 61,500 tonnes.
