Greek shipowner THENAMARIS SHIPS MANAGEMENT is in advanced discussions with HD Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) for two firm newbuildings of 50,000-dwt product tankers. The vessels will be conventional fuel-powered and fitted with scrubbers, supporting the company's fleet renewal
program. The order is valued at over $100 million and is scheduled for delivery within 2028. This move aligns with Thenamaris's strategy to modernize its tanker fleet with environmentally compliant vessels. The 50,000-dwt tankers are classified as MR (Medium Range) product carriers, a segment that remains vital for refined oil product transportation globally. The agreement with HMD reflects the ongoing demand for newbuildings in the tanker sector amid evolving environmental regulations and market needs.
