Germany’s Reederei Nord has placed an order for up to four newcastlemax bulk carriers at Wuhu Shipyard, marking its entry into the large bulker segment. The Hamburg-based company has contracted two firm 211,000 dwt vessels, with options for two more, scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029. These newbuilds
will be the largest ships in Reederei Nord’s fleet, which currently includes nearly 30 vessels ranging from handysize to ultramax bulkers, as well as tankers and feeder boxships. Employment for the new vessels has reportedly already been arranged. Wuhu Shipyard, located in Anhui province, has expanded its capabilities following the lease of drydock capacity at the former Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries site in Nantong, enabling it to build larger vessels including newcastlemax bulkers and VLCCs. The yard has recently secured orders from other owners, reflecting its growing presence in the upper end of the shipbuilding market.
