China Merchants Heavy Industry’s Haimen base held a naming ceremony for Celsius Georgetown, the first 180,000 cubic metre LNG carrier fully designed and built in China. The vessel measures 298.8 metres in length with a beam of 48 metres and features a dual-fuel low-speed propulsion system,
low boil-off rate, and strong environmental performance. Construction began in October 2023, and sea trials confirmed its gas and navigation capabilities. Celsius Georgetown is the largest LNG carrier completed by a Chinese shipyard, marking a significant milestone in China’s shipbuilding industry. LNG carriers transport liquefied natural gas at temperatures as low as -163°C and are considered highly complex vessels. With this delivery, China now has five shipyards capable of building LNG carriers, enhancing its global shipbuilding status. The vessel will support Celsius Group’s energy logistics operations in global LNG trade.
