Danish owner Celsius Shipping has taken delivery of Celsius Georgetown, a 180,000-cbm LNG carrier built by China Merchants Industry Haimen Base. The vessel was named on 8 April 2026 in Nantong and is recognized as China’s first delivered 180,000-cbm LNG carrier and the first large LNG
carrier from CMHI Haimen. This delivery marks China’s fourth shipyard—alongside Hudong-Zhonghua, Jiangnan Shipyard, and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry—to successfully deliver large LNG carriers, highlighting the country’s growing capabilities in this specialized shipbuilding segment. Celsius Georgetown measures approximately 298.8 metres in length and 48 metres in width, featuring Mark III Flex containment technology and a service speed of 19.5 knots. The vessel’s design focuses on low boil-off and operational efficiency. This milestone signals China’s expanding multi-yard capacity in LNG carrier construction, increasing its presence in a market traditionally dominated by a few global players.
