VARD has announced a new contract with Orange Marine for the design of two additional cable layer vessels, expanding Orange Marine's repair fleet. The vessels will be of the VARD 9 03 design, similar to the CS Sophie Germain, which was delivered in July 2023. These vessels are tailored for the maintenance of submarine fiber optic telecommunication cables and will be constructed at Colombo Dockyard PLC, which has previously delivered cable layers for Orange Marine. VARD's General Manager for Design, Kjell Morten Urke, expressed pride in the ongoing collaboration and highlighted VARD's growing portfolio in cable laying vessel design. With these new orders, VARD now has five vessels under construction, reinforcing its position as a leading designer and builder in this market segment.
