Turkish shipping newcomer Aqmaris has signed a contract with China’s Wuhu Shipyard for up to four ultramax bulk carriers, marking the company’s first major investment in newbuild tonnage. The deal includes two firm orders and options for two additional units, all of which will meet the latest IMO Tier III and EEDI Phase III environmental standards. The vessels will also be equipped for high-voltage shore power and can be adapted for lithium-ion battery technology. Aqmaris, an Istanbul-based operator registered in 2025, has already taken delivery of its first ultramax bulker and is expanding its presence with further projects at COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard. Delivery of the new vessels is expected in 2028. Wuhu Shipyard continues to strengthen its orderbook with this new deal from Aqmaris, while financial terms remain undisclosed.
