Evergreen Marine , has announced an order for eleven new 24,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (teu) LNG dual-fuel containerships. These ships are set to be constructed in both Chinese and South Korean shipyards.
The order is strategically split between two leading shipbuilders: China's Guangzhou Shipyard International will construct five of the vessels, while the remaining six will be built by South Korea's Hanwha Ocean . The cost per ship is estimated to range between $265 million and $295 million.
Although the specific delivery dates for these containerships have not yet been confirmed, this latest venture marks a significant shift for Evergreen Marine . The company is transitioning from using methanol dual-fuel to LNG, reflecting industry concerns about the future availability of green methanol.
