Vertom Group has announced the successful delivery of MV Vertom Rita, the first in a series of 12 diesel-electric short sea vessels constructed by Chowgule Shipyards in India. The 6,000 DWT vessel is part of Vertom's ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet while prioritizing sustainability. This series complements the company's existing 7,280 DWT vessels built in the Netherlands, six of which have already been delivered.
The MV Vertom Rita, measuring 99 meters in length with a gross tonnage of 3,923 GT, is designed to provide exceptional flexibility for short sea operations. Its box-shaped dry cargo hold is optimized for various cargo types, including bulk and breakbulk. The vessel’s innovative design integrates operational efficiency with reduced energy consumption and enhanced cargo intake.
Equipped with diesel-electric propulsion technology, the vessel complies with IMO Tier III emission standards and is prepared for future alternative fuels like methanol and hydrogen. This modular propulsion system adjusts to sailing profiles, ensuring optimal fuel consumption and minimal environmental impact.
Additionally, the vessel features advanced data connectivity and automation systems to streamline operations and enhance crew efficiency. The delivery marks another step in Vertom Group’s commitment to sustainable shipping and fleet renewal.
