Philly Shipyard Begins Construction of Matson’s New LNG-Ready Aloha Class Containerships

These vessels will be built to operate on either conventional marine fuels or liquefied natural gas (LNG) and will be delivered to Matson in 2026 and 2027. All ships will be delivered in an LNG-ready configuration, aligning with Matson’s long-term sustainability goals. The incorporation of LNG and other green ship technologies is aimed at supporting Matson’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, with a targeted reduction by 2030. Philly Shipyard has expressed pride in its role in contributing to this initiative, reinforcing the partnership’s shared vision of sustainable shipping solutions. The new vessels are expected to enhance Matson’s service capacity and speed, benefiting both its Hawaii service and the CLX routes.
