Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, a leading private shipbuilder in China, has announced a significant strategic move by entering into a joint venture agreement with Japan’s Tsuneishi Holdings. This partnership involves Yangzijiang acquiring a 34% equity stake in Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding, a Chinese subsidiary of Tsuneishi Holdings. The stake will be purchased through a private share allotment valued at $117 million, signaling a major collaboration between the two prominent shipbuilding companies.
Tsuneishi Holdings, a major shipbuilding group in Japan, operates shipyards not only in Japan but also in Zhoushan, China, and the Philippines. Over the years, Yangzijiang and Tsuneishi have developed a close working relationship through their joint venture in Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding (YAMIC), which has enabled both firms to enhance their capabilities and expand their operations.
This latest joint venture further solidifies the partnership between the two companies, reflecting their commitment to advancing shipbuilding capabilities in the region. With Yangzijiang’s stake in Tsuneishi’s Zhoushan facility, both companies are well-positioned to strengthen their market presence and enhance their competitiveness in the global shipbuilding industry. This development marks another milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the Chinese and Japanese shipbuilding giants.
