Switzerland-based commodity trading giant Vitol has strategically expanded its LNG bunker fleet through a time charter agreement with Avenir LNG and an order for two vessels at the CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering shipyard in China. This expansion underscores Vitol's commitment to strengthening its position in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.The time charter agreement with Avenir LNG, a notable player in small-scale LNG, involves Avenir’s first 20,000 cubic meter LNG bunker newbuild. The charter will commence upon the vessel's delivery from the Chinese shipyard in the fourth quarter of 2026 and will span seven years, with options to extend the charter up to a total of ten years.

In addition to the time charter, Avenir LNG has placed an order for two 20,000 cubic meter LNG bunker vessels with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering, scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027. This order bolsters Avenir's third-party charter revenue backlog, including options, to over $205 million.Simultaneously, Vitol has ordered one 12,500 cubic meter and one 20,000 cubic meter LNG bunker vessel from the same shipyard. These vessels are slated for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2026 and the third quarter of 2027, respectively, further enhancing Vitol's LNG capabilities.
