DryDel Shipping has signed contracts with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding for two new 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax vessels, marking the company's entry into this dry bulk segment. The vessels are scheduled for future delivery and will be NOx Tier III and EEDI Phase 3 compliant, incorporating the latest energy-efficiency technologies to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, the two vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and will be fitted with scrubbers; the order was reported on 02 Dec 2024. DryDel said the move reflects its assessment of long-term demand for modern, Japanese-built 82,000 DWT ships, noting that relatively few shipyards remain willing to construct vessels of this size. The company views the combination of strong future demand and limited newbuilding capacity as making the Kamsarmax segment increasingly attractive. Since 2021, DryDel has placed more than 25 newbuilding orders with leading Japanese shipyards, extending its investment programme across all major dry bulk categories, from Handysize to Capesize. The company expects to take delivery of 13 newbuilding vessels through 2029 as it continues to modernise and diversify its fleet. DryDel CEO Costas Delaportas said expanding into the Kamsarmax segment was an important strategic step, citing growing demand for this ship size alongside limited quality newbuilding capacity. He added that the order strengthens the company's relationship with Tsuneishi and reflects an approach focused on investing ahead of anticipated future market conditions rather than current demand alone.
