Dutch shipping company Longship Group has taken delivery of Longpeace, a new shortsea dry cargo vessel built by local shipyards GS Projects and Ship and Steelbuilding (SAS). The vessel is the third in a series constructed for the company, following sisters Longpearl and Longpride, which were handed over earlier this year. Longpeace has an LOA of 103.08 metres, a beam of 16 metres, a draught of 6.2 metres, and a deadweight of 6,250. The vessel has already begun operations with Longship, sailing on the company's routes in the Baltic Sea. The original contract between Longship, GS Projects, and SAS covered the construction and delivery of four firm vessels, with options for up to four additional ships from the same series. Longship has since exercised the options for all four additional vessels, bringing the total series to eight ships. Longship said the vessels are designed for efficient fuel consumption and incorporate eco-friendly technologies. All eight ships in the class were designed in compliance with Lloyd's Register class requirements and built to Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A specifications, allowing them to operate in ice-affected waters typical of the Baltic region.
