Chowgule and Company's Shipbuilding Division (Chowgule SBD) delivered its 50th export vessel on 8 September 2026, a milestone that also completes a 12-vessel series built for AtoB@C Shipping, a subsidiary of ESL Shipping. The delivery marks nearly two decades of export shipbuilding for the Goa-based yard, which sent its first export vessel to Apollo Shipping of the Netherlands in 2007, a year after entering the export market in 2006. Of the 50 vessels delivered, 48 were built at the company's Goa facility and two at Mangaluru, with customers concentrated primarily in Europe. The AtoB@C series began in 2021 with an order for six 5,350 DWT Ice Class 1A hybrid vessels, roughly 90 metres in length, before expanding to 12 ships. The vessels were designed for close to 50 percent lower CO2 emissions per unit of cargo compared with the owner's previous generation of ships. Design, engineering and shipyard support for the series were provided by SMB, a naval architecture and consultancy firm. Chowgule SBD said the milestone reflects the growing capabilities of Indian shipbuilding and the confidence global shipowners place in Indian yards, adding that it plans to build on the achievement as India seeks a larger role in the global shipbuilding sector.
