Wallenius Wilhelmsen has taken delivery of Arctic Tern, the first vessel in its new Shaper Class series, marking a milestone in the carrier's fleet renewal programme. The dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier will be deployed through EUKOR Car Carriers, a joint venture between Wallenius Wilhelmsen and Hyundai Motor Group, and will enter service immediately on trade routes between Asia and Europe. Arctic Tern is designed to handle automotive and high-and-heavy roll-on/roll-off cargo and is built with dual-fuel capability, allowing it to run on methanol. The vessel is scheduled to undergo its first methanol bunkering shortly after entering commercial operations. Compared with earlier generations, the Shaper Class offers increased cargo capacity, improved hull efficiency and enhanced onboard operational systems. The newbuild is positioned as a foundational part of Wallenius Wilhelmsen's target to provide net-zero end-to-end supply chain services by 2027. The newbuild programme involved close coordination between Wallenius Wilhelmsen, site manager Wallenius Marine, which oversaw shipyard construction and delivery readiness, and Wilhelmsen Ship Management, which takes on crew management, technical oversight and maintenance responsibilities following delivery. According to TrustedDocks orderbook data, Arctic Tern (IMO 9967897, hull number 1940) was ordered in March 2022 from K Shipbuilding (K Chosun Co., Ltd.), with delivery scheduled from 04 Sep 2026.
