PIRIOU has delivered the wind-powered cargo ship Atlantis to NEWTOWT, the French shipping company formed after the takeover of TOWT, marking the third sailing vessel in the fleet and the first delivered to the new shipowner. The Atlantis joins the Anémos and Artémis, both handed over by PIRIOU in 2024 as part of the Phénix class. After leaving PIRIOU's shipyard in Vietnam in early August, the Atlantis is currently stopping at Le Port in Reunion Island, at Quay 8 opposite the new TITAN dock at the Grand Port Maritime de La Réunion, to take on supplies. She will then sail for Brazil on her first commercial crossing before calling at Le Havre, where she is expected in November for an inauguration ceremony. Measuring 81 meters in length with a beam of 11.90 meters, the Atlantis carries up to 1,100 tons of cargo and relies primarily on sail propulsion, supported by two 422 kW auxiliary engines. Her two masts, roughly 64 meters tall, carry about 2,200 square meters of sail area, giving an average speed near 10.5 knots. The ship can accommodate a crew of 7 to 12 and up to 12 passengers. A fourth vessel, the Atlas, launched at PIRIOU's Vietnam shipyard in February, is now fitted with its masts and nearing completion ahead of delivery before year-end. PIRIOU has also recently delivered the Menawethan to the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group and continues building the Scillonian IV, underscoring its broader activity across freight, passenger and island shipping markets.
