Swedish shipping company Furetank and its partners have placed an order for four new dual-fuel product tankers, according to an announcement on 31 Aug 2026. The 17,999-dwt vessels will be capable of running on liquefied biomethane (LBM), LNG or gasoil, and will feature shore-power connections and battery-hybrid systems intended to cut emissions and reduce fuel consumption. Ownership of the newbuilds will be split among four companies. Two of the tankers will belong to FureBear, a joint venture between Furetank and Canadian shipping company Algoma Central Corporation. Norwegian shipping company O.H. Meling and Swedish operator Älvtank will each take delivery of one vessel. The tankers will be built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in China, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and 2029. Once in service, they will join the Gothia Tanker Alliance and be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering. The order follows Furetank's announcement earlier in August 2026 of plans to add the methane-capable tanker Fure Vasa to its fleet, underscoring the company's continued push toward multi-fuel and hybrid propulsion technology across its tanker operations.
